Mountain Skills Weekend
Do you feel you are lacking the confidence, skills and experience to explore the magnificent mountains of the UK alone? Would you like to learn how to become independent in your abilities to get walking confidently and safely?
Come and join us for a relaxed and fun two day course where our qualified instructors can provide you with the knowledge and skills to achieve confidence in your abilities to explore the mountains either alone or with friends and family.
The day will consist of:
- use of map and compass
- navigational techniques
- what gear to take with you
- how to deal with an emergency
- fitness and nutrition
- the weather – how to check the forecast and to assess on your journey
This course is aimed at those who are active walkers (though where is not important) and want to take that next step in being able to hike the spectacular mountains we see around us. We purposefully keep the group sizes small so your instructor can give you as much one to one tuition as possible.
The first day of the course will be relaxed and at a comfortable pace on slightly technical terrain giving you the opportunity to learn about the use of a map and compass. Your instructor will spend some time discussing with you the necessary gear to carry and how to pack it effectively. They can guide you on how to achieve necessary fitness levels and offer information on nutrition to keep yourself in a physical position to be able to enjoy a day in the mountains. They will discuss with you emergency procedures and how to deal with an emergency should this occur.
At the end of day one you will head for a nice relaxing “panad” (the Welsh word for brew, on us) and your instructor will assist you on planning a route for day two.
Day two will give you the opportunity to put your new found skills into practice under professional supervision taking you onto more technical terrain.
We aim to make this weekend relaxed and fun where you are given the opportunity to ask any question you may have. Your instructor will be able to assist you with any questions you have regarding the Welsh language and pronunciation of the Welsh Mountain names and their meanings.
If you feel a full weekend is to ambitious for you, we also offer a hill skills day that will help you build your confidence in the hills.
Cost of the Mountain Skills weekend is: £90 per person
